Annapolis Advocacy Day: Feb 17
On Monday, February 17 in the evening, 127 of us from the Maryland Just Power Alliance (ACT, AIM, and PATH) returned to Annapolis! We met in small groups with 25 of our state legislators and staff to advocate for our policy priorities:
The Housing for Jobs Act,
Good Cause Eviction,
The ReNEW Act,
Pre-K expansion, and
Protections for immigrants.
Together, we did what we do best: sharing our personal stories with our legislators and building relationships. We bring unique power to the table because we are everyday people in our legislators' districts who can show up and speak about the issues we care about.
For several of you, it was your first time in Annapolis or speaking with your legislators. Congratulations! A central part of our mission is training leaders like you to engage in public life. We were so glad to have you with us last night.
Next Steps:
There are many opportunities to continue supporting our bills in the next several weeks:
Turnout for Housing for Jobs Act:
On Tuesday, March 4th at 1 pm, we are showing up at the hearing for the Housing for Jobs Act. This will be an important way to demonstrate that there is widespread support for this bill and get recognition from the Governor. Please register here if you can attend:
Issue Action Team Meetings:
Over the next 10 days, we are scheduling meetings focused on each of the issues we support (Housing for Jobs, Good Cause, climate, pre-K, and immigration). You're invited if you want to learn more about one of these issues and its political strategy. Please stay tuned for meeting dates.
Action Alerts:
Another effective way to support our priorities is by emailing your Senators and Delegates. We are sending out email alerts 1 or 2 days before each bill hearing to have those of you who live in the district of a committee member to send them a message. Keep an eye out for these action alerts.
Things are moving quickly this session, and we appreciate your flexibility! You can keep up-to-date with the schedule of bill hearings, fact sheets, and more on our statewide campaign page:
Donate:
Another way you can support our work in Annapolis is by making a monthly donation. Your ongoing contribution will help us continue and expand our work to train new leaders and help pass crucial legislation.
